FAQ - Retractable Fly Screens

What is a fly screen?

Flyscreens are mesh screens that are attached to windows & doors to keep insects & other unwanted pests out of the house while allowing fresh air to flow through. It is an effective way to improve the comfort & livability of your home while protecting your family from mosquitos, flies, & the sun’s harmful UV rays.

What is the purpose of a fly screen?

Keeping insects out

The primary benefit of flyscreens is to keep insects such as flies, mosquitoes, & other flying bugs out of your home. This is especially important in areas with a high incidence of insect-borne diseases.

Improved indoor air quality

Flyscreens allow fresh air to flow into your home while helping reduce some pollutants, such as pollen & dust. This can help improve indoor air quality, making it easier for people with allergies or respiratory problems to breathe.

Energy savings

By allowing fresh air to flow through your home, flyscreens can help reduce the need for air conditioning or other cooling systems, which can lead to energy savings.

Increased privacy

Some types of flyscreens can also provide increased privacy by reducing visibility into your home from the outside.

You can read more about the real dangers of not having fly screens at home in our BLOG.

How does a retractable fly screen work?

Retractable flyscreens use a roller system to retract the screen mesh into a housing or cassette when not in use. The screen mesh is made from a durable & flexible material, typically fibreglass or polyester, which allows air to flow through while keeping insects & other pests out.
When you need to use the screen, you simply pull the handle or cord to extend the mesh across the opening, & it locks into place at the desired position. The screen can be easily retracted by releasing the lock & allowing the roller system to wind up the mesh back into the housing or cassette.

What is the best fly screen to use?

The best flyscreen to use depends on your specific needs & preferences, as well as the type of opening you need to cover. Check our range of fly screen & retractable screen products. Our most in-demand fly screens are fibreglass, & Pet Mesh™. If you have pets that like to scratch or chew on screens, consider using pet-proof screens.

How much do retractable fly screens cost?

The cost of flyscreens in Australia can vary depending on several factors, including the size of the screen, the type of material used, the brand, & the supplier. On average, a standard-sized flyscreen for a window can cost between $50 to $150, while a larger-sized flyscreen for a sliding door or patio can cost between $150 to $300. EHi offers the best deal for retractable fly screen products & installation. Call us at 136 344 & let us know what you need.
